Mine Your Own Business
Don Boudreaux
Yesterday, Karol and I
attended a screening of the new movie "Mine Your Own Business" -- an
entertaining documentary exposing the arrogance, greed, cruelty, and
irrationality of many environmental activists.
One of these
activists insisted that poor people really don't want better
housing, better nutrition, and better education. Instead, says the
well-housed, well-fed, highly educated "environmentalist," poor people
really prefer their quaint, traditional ways of life.
Martin Wolf and Deepak Lal are among the prominent, sound scholars whose comments enrich this film.
You'll find the trailer here.

Is it really "Mine Your Own Business"?

Yep -- MINE Your Own Business. The movie centers on environmentalists' attempt to "protect" local villages from mining companies wishing to set up mines in their locales.

I've seen it. Excellent movie. The arrogance and paternalism of these environmentalists is amazing. Oh, but I hear the movie has been debunked! A poll of Romanians indicates that the producers of the movie are wrong! The Romanian people DON'T want the mine! Only problem is that the poll was of people living on the other side of the country, in the larger cities, not the poor people of the mining town in question.

The trailer hits the nail right on the head; the environmental movement is essentially anti-human.

This movie is complete crap - yep, total bullshit. Spare yourself the shame you must feel for Phelim McAleer if you watch (t)his piece of corporate tongue in ass.
Great is also the website goldenmyths . net/com/org. It is owned by the "free"lance journalist Kirk Leech (who is also responsible for numerous articles about the movie and even better has his alter-ego (aka Kirk Williams) representing "UK medical researchers in the public debate about the use of animals in medical research") and pretends to support the compan.. err the people of Rosia Montana, Romania.
Website coincidently created 27 september 2006, but yet no (0) posts in the forum..
nothing better then a little bit of lobbying.. well Don if you doesn´t feel used now, I do - have a nice new movie night, heard "taxi to the dark-side" is coming to a cinema near you.

Amazing that B Holmes wrote so much and could only effectually say that the film is dumb. Well, I am not sure if you B Holmes has ever been or lived in a 3rd world country, but they do clamor for jobs that are not available because of lack of investment do to the enviroment. The poor people want want he probably has: a computer and the time to write gibberish on the internet. If you do not agree, then fine make you point, but refrain from bashing the others points of view.
Nothing is free, but is it best not to do it and let the poor suffer or to work, diplomatically, to make sure that the problems with industrial sites are mitigated. There has got to be a middle ground. B Holmes... go sit on a rock in Romania where the mine was to have gone into and see how long you stay there since it is so quaint.
